If you’re a fan of fast, technical roads with plenty of twists and turns, this route is an absolute must-ride. Brace yourself for an adrenaline-fueled experience that will keep you engaged from start to finish. However, if you prefer the tranquility of mountain scenery and leisurely sweeping turns, it’s best to stick to the Parkway and save this one for another time.  It’s often underrated and rarely frequented by other riders, making it a true hidden gem.

Cullowee Mountain Road Loop

Distance: 85 Miles

Approximate Time: 1/2 Day trip

Difficulty: Easy

This is a local favorite and offers an off the beaten path experience.  This ride is what I call the lazy of motorcycle touring, it’s a great afternoon.  Stop off for lunch in one of the many restaurants or breweries in the area.  Here are some of the favorites around Cashiers.

The mountain town of Cashiers, North Carolina is accessible on this route. Cashiers is home to upscale shopping, dining, and quaint Southern charm. It’s also home to The Village Green, a relaxing commons/park area worth exploring.

Beware of gravel driveways: Proceed with caution on this route. Many driveways along both Cullowhee Mountain Road and NC 107 are unpaved, and gravel will occasionally wash out into the road.

The Rattler +

Distance: 156 Miles

Approximate Time: Plan for the better part of a day to allow for stops.

Route Info: The Rattler begins at Ferguson Supply where you can get a photo with the Rattler sign. The road coils up into the Pisgah National Forest on its way to the small town of Hot Springs where you wet your whistle and catch a bite to eat.  We have noted a few stops along the way.  I call this the Rattler + because I like to extend the ride to Lonesome Mountain Road and Revere Road down to Marshall on the banks of the French Broad River where there are also some great dining opportunities.
